Lucia Zarate: Shortest Woman Ever Recorded

Lucia Zarate

aka Shortest Woman Ever Recorded, aka The Puppet-woman, aka Mexican Lilliputian, aka Lightest person who ever lived

Lucia Zarate was born in Mexico in 1864 weighing only eight ounces and was only seven inches in height. By adulthood she stood only 26 1/2 inches high and weighed only 13 pounds-- she was lighter than most house cats; hence, she is also recognized by Guinness as the lightest person who ever lived.

Zarate's life ended tragically in 1890 when the train she was on became stranded in the Rocky Mountains during a heavy snowstorm. The 26-year-old was exposed to cold temperatures and died of hypothermia.

Where Y'at, NADIA COMANECI ?

Nadia Elena Comaneci (originally Comăneci /ko.mə'neʧʲ/; born November 12, 1961) is a Romanian gymnast, winner of five Olympic gold medals, and the first gymnast to be awarded a perfect score of 10 in an Olympic gymnastic event...

At the age of 14, Comaneci became one of the stars of the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal. During the team portion of the competition, her routine on the uneven bars was scored at a 10.0. It was the first time in modern Olympic gymnastics history that the score had ever been awarded. The scoreboards were not even equipped to display scores of 10.0—so Nadia's perfect marks were reported on the boards as 1.00 instead. Over the course of the Olympics, Comaneci would earn six additional 10s, en route to capturing the all-around, beam and bars titles and a bronze medal on the floor exercise. source: wikipedia

"British singer Boy George combined a strong, soulful singing voice with a provocative sense of fashion, both of which were first brought to the attention of English and American audiences in the group Culture Club, for whom he served as lead singer from 1982 to 1986. The group wrote and played impeccable pop music, and Boy George's androgynous persona -- heavy makeup and outrageous costumes -- gave the group a distinct video image in the dawn of MTV." Scientist Edgar Dean Mitchell (born September 17, 1930) is an American pilot and astronaut who reached the Moon in 1971 on Apollo 14. As the lunar module pilot of the latter, he spent nine hours and 17 minutes moonwalking making him the sixth man to walk on the Moon and a record holder for the longest moonwalk.

Just recently, Dr Mitchell has revealed that aliens do exist and that the pictures available to us depicting these "little people" pretty much resembles them accurately. Dr Mitchell described the aliens as "friendly with small bodies, a large head and big eyes."

Dr Mitchell also declared that the aliens are not hostile and that "The UFO phenomena is real."

Take A Guess: Who's that Little Girl Kissing ET's Nose?

She is best remembered for her role as Gertie in the 1981 blockbuster film E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, directed by her godfather, Hollywood Icon, Steven Spielberg.

Fast forward to today and you'll see her standing at the helm of Superstardom, enjoying life as one of Hollywood's top 10 highest paid thespians. But like current Papparazi favorites -- Lindsay Lohan, Britney Spears and Paris Hilton -- she has her share of salacious moments; smoking cigarettes, alcohol problem, marijuana episodes, snorting cocaine and going into rehab twice. All these happened before she reached 15.

She bounced back as she approached adulthood beginning with the VHS hit Poison Ivy. The 1996 thriller Scream forged her stature as a highly bankable star.

Aside from her tumultuous childhood, previous sex symbol image, and crowd-drawing films, she also caught the attention of the media because of her cosmetic enhancement. Twice, she went under the knife to reduce her chest size. First was when she was 16 and the second was in 2006 or early 2007.

Coming from a clan of actors may have provided her an easy ascent upwards the Hollywood mainstream but the lures and vices of the trade had also offered her a slow but sure descent. Having risen above her debacles and being where she is right now only proves that she is worth the second chance.

Ah! This is such a no-brainer!

Here she is...

Louise Brown: First Test Tube Baby

Born: July 25, 1978

In the 70's, in vitro fertilization, or IVF was hailed as a breakthrough in the fields of medicine and science. Through a planned caesarean section, Louise Joy Brown, the first test tube baby , was born on July 25, 1978 in Oldham, Greater Manchester, England. Her birth, videotaped and became top news worldwide, gave a flicker of hope to many infertile couples around the world. However, not a few were skeptical about the IVF's future implications and ill-use; it also became a source of heated dispute within medical and religious groups alike. The religious sect still raises issues against physicians for "playing God" by practicing the IVF procedure.

Louise's parents, Lesley and John Brown had decided to seek the help of gynecologist Patrick Steptoe and physiologist Robert Edwards after nine years of failed conceptions due to Lesley's blocked fallopian tubes. Four years later, the Brown's next child, Natalie, was also conceived through IVF. She was the 40th IVF baby in the world and in 1999 became the first "test-tube" baby to give birth.

Louise, 28, married 37 year old Wesley Mullinder in 2004. Like Natalie's daughter Casey, Louise's son, Cameron John Mullinder, born on 21 December 2006, was also conceived naturally and without IVF.

In 2003, in her first public appearance as an adult, at Bourn Hall, near Cambridge, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of her birth, Louise said she hoped to have children without resorting to IVF although she would have the treatment too, if necessary.

She likewise narrated incidents wherein schoolmates would ask her if she was born in the laboratory. "I thought it was something peculiar to me. I thought I was abnormal," she confided. At times, she would feel "completely alone". Nonetheless, she remains proud to have been the world's first successful "test-tube" baby but she admits media attention makes her uncomfortable. The public's fascination over her was as unrelenting, to which she quoted: "I don't feel any more special than anyone else. I just get on with my life. Just normal- I just plod along".

In her recent interview following the birth of her child, Louise expressed belief that "the science that created her has become a soulless conveyor belt ...". She thinks "it is wrong for parents to use science to choose the sex of their children unless it's for medical reasons...". Continuing, she remarked that she was teased at school because she was a "test tube" baby.

Currently, Louise is an administrator with a shipping firm, a task she shall be putting off until her son, Cameron, is older. Previously for three years, she had a stint as a nursery nurse in Bristol.

If she so desired, an opulent life would have been just within her grasp as offers from newspapers and television journals to sell her story were never scarce. But the eldest of the "test tube" babies, whose life has had been closely monitored by the medical scientists and the world, opted to lead a life of modesty and privacy.

Louise Joy Brown has had plodded along her own life level-headed and sans any signs of abnormalities, as opposed to all the initial criticisms and skepticisms surrounding the technology by which she was conceived.

Josef Fritzl: Austrian Incest Dad

Josef Fritzl (left) and his daughter Elisabeth

(Blogger's Note: This was written by a new found friend on June 11,2008. It essays the gist of the Josef Fritzl Incest story)

19-year old Kerstin Fritzl, the eldest of the seven children who were incestuously born to Austrian Josef Fritzl and his daughter Elisabeth, finally came out of a seven week coma. Kerstin reportedly became very ill due to a lifelong lack of fresh air, light, exercise, and proper food. When she fell unconscious on April 19, Elisabeth begged Fritzl to seek medical help for her and the latter was forced to deliver Kerstin to the hospital on the same day.

Doctors at Amstetten General Hospital discovered that Kerstin suffered from a multiple organ failure and thus was put into a medically induced coma as part of her treatment. Aside from the said discovery, they also found a letter that was written and hidden by Elisabeth in Kerstin’s pocket. In the letter, Elisabeth asked whoever would read it to help her alleviate her and her family’s situation. Having read the note, the doctors called the police.

Police investigations then revealed that Elisabeth, 43, was raped by Fritzl since she was 11 years old. When she was 18, he lured her to the basement of their house, locked her up and made her his personal sex slave for over 24 years, beginning in 1984. To explain Elisabeth’s disappearance, he made his legal wife Rosemarie, 68, with whom he also has seven children, believe that Elisabeth ran away from home to join a religious cult. Thus, during the recent police investigation, Rosemarie claimed that she was not aware of Elisabeth’s cellar predicaments.

Fritzl continued to rape and physically assault Elisabeth which resulted to her becoming pregnant and giving birth to Kerstin in 1989. This was followed by six more incestuously born children. Like Kerstin, all of them were borne by Elisabeth inside the dimly-lit chamber, aided only by the medical books that Fritzl provided her. Three of the children, Lisa, 16, Monika, 14, and Alexander, 12 -- live normal lives with Fritzl and Rosemarie. Fritzl brought them out of the cellar when they were infants and made it appear as if Elisabeth had left the babies to his and his wife’s care. He did this by staging the "discovery" of the babies outside the entrance of their residence on different occasions. The other three children, Kerstin 19, Stefan, 18, and Felix, 5, and Elisabeth remained imprisoned in the small, purpose-built, sound-proofed and windowless dungeon beneath the upstairs home. Fritzl, who was an engineer and property developer, designed and built the dungeon himself for this particular purpose.

Michael, who was Alexander’s twin brother, died in the cellar due to breathing complications three days after Elisabeth gave birth to him and Alex in 1996. The place was damp and moldy and had very little oxygen. One of the investigators handling the case said that, “There is so little oxygen that the victims would have had to spend nearly all their time lying or sitting down.”

In his April 28 confession following his arrest, Fritzl admitted to having thrown Michael’s corpse to his heating furnace to "get rid of it".

Kerstin is now reunited with Elisabeth and her brothers Stefan and Felix who, after living in the darkness of the cellar, have finally seen the light of the day when the police revealed the case on April 26.

Jussi Björling: The Swedish Caruso

Jussi Björling (born February 5,1911 in Borlange, Sweden; died September 9,1960 in Siaro, Sweden)

Jussi Björling (pronounced YU' SI BYOR'LING) was one of the most admired tenors of the twentieth century. He was never an effective actor on stage nor was he particularly handsome, but his excellent technique, scrupulous musicianship, and beautiful voice, with its powerful and focused top, made him one of the most-demanded stars of his day. Those with a fondness for such comparisons consistently called him "the second Caruso" or "the Swedish Caruso." Some found his rather smooth timbre inexpressive, particularly those used to Gigli's frequent use of sobs and other extra-musical effects, but others found that its directness, combined with his sensitivity to phrasing, made the music all the more expressive. At times he did have a tendency to sing slightly sharp, but to listeners without an acute sense of pitch it was almost undetectable. read more...

In March of 1960, Björling had a heart attack before a performance at Covent Garden. While he chose to finish the performance, his symptoms became still more serious, and he and his family returned to Sweden, where he died that September. --Ann Feeney, All Music Guide

Jocelyn Wildenstein: Extreme Plastic Surgery

"The Bride of Wildenstein" ( to mean like "The Bride of Frankenstein"), "The Lion Queen", "The Cat Woman", "The Queen of the Jungle", "Tiger Woman", "Poster Child of Plastic Surgery Addiction"... are only some of the titles labeled to her by the baffled yet amused tabloid press.

High Society Madame, Jocelyn Wildenstein, was born from a middle class family in Lausanne, Switzerland. Her lion hunting skills enabled her to work in the estate of billionaire international art connoisseur, Alec Wildenstein, in Kenya. She won his heart for being a skilled hunter and pilot and they wed within a year following a whirlwind romance.

Jocelyn eventually assumed the role of a "Society Wife" and enjoyed the luxuriance that it could offer. But,on the other hand, she also had to bear with the ill temperaments of husband Alec who was resentful of his controlling father.

After being married for many years, and having two children, Alec began to engage in affairs. Already in her fifties, Jocelyn sought the help of their plastic surgeon friend to restore her youthful face. Although pleased with the results, Alec still didn't stop sleeping with other women.

Knowing how Alec values the lions in his private jungle, Jocelyn made a trip back to her plastic surgeon and asked him to do what she thought would save her marriage.

She asked him to transform her nordic good looks to that of her husband's beloved pet

-- the LION.

Howard Hughes, Eccentric Billionaire

Born: December 24, 1905 Died: April 05, 1976

Howard Robard Hughes, Jr. was a US businessman recognized for his accomplishments and contributions as an aviator, engineer, industrialist and film producer. He was, in his time, famed as a playboy, one of the richest men in the world, and in his last years, a recluse.

Howard was an only child. During his childhood, his father was in constant business trips leaving him to the care of his mother who was obsessed with cleanliness and who had greatly influenced him in protecting himself from germs and diseases. Howard's mother would personally bathe him, rubbing lye on his ears to the ends of his toes. Reportedly, she would meticulously review the naked body of her young son checking his teeth, ears, genitals, elbows and knees. Psychologists would later label her behavior as "emotionally incestousa". At age 18 and upon the death of his father,Howard inherited an estate worth $871,000 and a patent to an oil-drilling tool, which was manufactured by his late father's Hughes Tool Company. During his entire life, Howard consistently exhibited an obsessive-compulsive behavior and it was speculated that by the late 1950's or earlier, he developed symptoms of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).

In 1966, at the age of 60, Howard mysteriously withdrew from the public's eye.Such behavior further heightened the media's curiosity. Tabloids tagged him: an eccentric recluse. During this period of self-imposed hermitage, Howard had become a sick man resulting from his unsubstantial eating habit and excessive use of drugs.

Howard was 70 years old when he finally succumbed to kidney failure. At the time of his death, X-ray results disclosed grave malnutrition among other conditions. The first doctor to examine Howard concluded the cause of his demise as neglect.

Because he did not leave a will, Howard's estate, estimated at $2.3 billion, became a subject of a much-publicized extensive litigation.

Howard Hughes was the first american billionaire.

Blogger's Notes: Howard Hughes, Eccentric Billionaire

Ayyye! Peepz...Are you on this? It ain't pretty bein' an OC. I have a bit of that "be squeaky clean" behavior myself and thanks to this Howard guy, I sorta resolved not to go overboard. I sure don't wana get my butt ugly when I die. *LAUGHS*!

Kiddin' aside, I heard the story of his Howard character a long time ago courtesy of my cuz Yolanda (psst! yolan, where art thou?). From then on, the "legend of the eccentric recluse" got stuck in my head. I didn't know the whole story then. I thought, "Wow! He must have gone through a great deal of whackin' from somebody to quit the social scene". I mean, we all dig that at one point or another we all need some space- for a while- but, turn yourself into a hermit? Ugh. Well, I finally comprehended his story a li'l mo' when I saw "The Aviator".

Just when I thought his story would not shock me again, I was shocked- again! - while doin' the research for this blog. I didn't realize the extent of damage he got himself into. He was a debonair turned into an unkempt, unshaven shadow of his former self.

Well, let me get into the moral of the story:

1st: it's ok to smell like a skunk once in while. Try not washing your face the entire day. Don't you pity that poor slimy stuff called facial oil not having anywhere to settle? Let it thrive on your skin for, like, one or two days (I do not believe I'm sayin' this! *laughs*).

2nd: and this one's serious- our childhood experiences mold us to be what we become in the future. They either restore or

break us ( I sound like a granny ).

3rd: again, this is serious- this story confirms that money can't buy you genuine happiness, care, and love. When Howard died he was one of the wealthiest men in the world. In fact, all his life -from his birth till his death- he never had to worry about not havin' money; YET, he died of MALNUTRION & NEGLECT. Huhhhmmm, I guez trusting become difficult when everyone around you would do everything you want them to because they’re in your payroll and not because, with or without the incentive of money, they love you. Ya agree with me on that?

Share your thoughts, pleaz. And while you're at it, I'll go wash my jacket cuz I accidentally dropped it earlier. It might get contaminated by bacteria or virus. Wait! Where's my Kleenex? I have to pick the darn jacket with a Kleenex to "insulate" myself from germs (uh- what am I sayin'?). laughs*
